How One Brand Took 63 Seconds Off Every Drive-Thru Car

Over five quarters, a brand-level QSR customer cut total drive-thru time 17% and drive-offs 58% across 900+ locations. Here's what changed, and what it was worth.

Most drive-thru improvement stories are about one store. A new manager, a better schedule, a good month.

This one is about a whole brand.

Over five straight quarters, one of our brand-level customers took its average total drive-thru time from 5:57 to 4:54. That's 63 seconds off every car, across more than 900 locations. Over the same stretch, the share of cars that gave up and drove off fell by more than half.

None of it came from one big fix. It came from finally being able to see the whole lane, store by store, and acting on what showed up.

A Minute Back on Every Car

Total time is the number guests actually feel. It runs from the moment a car enters the lane to the moment it leaves with food, pull-forwards included.

The drop wasn't a one-quarter spike. Time fell every single quarter, which is what you'd expect when a change sticks in daily operations rather than lasting for one promo cycle.

It also held up while the program grew. The number of stores being measured climbed from about 700 to 949 over the same period. New stores coming online didn't drag the average back up.

Fewer Cars Leaving the Line

Faster lanes don't just make guests happier. They keep guests from leaving.

When a line looks slow, some drivers pull out before they ever reach the speaker. That sale is gone, and most systems never record it. Our cameras do, so the brand could finally put a number on it.

Bar chart: drive-off rate fell from 1.06% to 0.44% and estimated lost revenue per store per day fell from $47 to $18 between 2025 Q3 and 2026 Q3

Twenty-nine dollars a day doesn't sound like much for one store. But multiply it across 949 stores and 365 days, and it comes to more than $10 million a year in sales that used to drive away.

How we estimated it: lost revenue = drive-off cars x $15 average check. Drive-off cars = drive-off rate x total cars per store per day.

What Actually Changed

The lanes didn't change. The visibility did.

Legacy loop timers see a few fixed points: the speaker, the window, maybe a total. Everything in between is a guess. Berry AI uses cameras and vision AI to follow each car through the whole lane, so a brand can see where the minutes actually go:

  • The full journey. Queue time before the menu board, menu time, window time, pull-forward time and total time, for every car.
  • Drive-offs as they happen. Cars that leave before or after ordering get counted, so lost demand stops being invisible.
  • Pull-forwards that are honest. Pulled-forward cars stay on the clock, so a store can't make its window time look better by parking guests.
  • The right view for each level. A real-time dashboard and leaderboard for crews, daily email reports for store managers, and a brand-wide BI portal for leadership.

When every store is measured the same way, the slow ones stand out fast. Coaching and fixes go where they're needed, and progress shows up quarter after quarter.

What Would 63 Seconds Be Worth to You?

Every brand's lanes are different. Your starting time, your traffic and your average check will all change the math.

The pattern, though, tends to hold: once you can see the whole drive-thru, the minutes you can win back are bigger than they look from the window.
